WHAT IS RED-S?

3/3/2019

RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport formerly known as the Female Athlete Triad) is a newer term that describes the impact of not consuming enough calories on physiological function. While diagnostic criteria does not exist (yet!) for this disorder, RED-s is often characterized by a high focus on limiting types of foods, which often leads to disordered eating patterns. Both can be dangerous to one's overall health. Athletes are specifically at a higher risk for developing RED-S.
