Sarah is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Mental Health Service Provider in the states of Tennessee and Alabama. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Family Studies, from Samford University & a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of Montevallo. Additionally, she is nationally certified through the National Board for Certified Counselors. Prior to working in private practice, she started working on a multi-disciplinary team in 2008 treating clients with a primary eating disorder (ED) diagnosis at two leading treatment facilities at the following levels of care: Residential Treatment, Partial Hospitalization, and Intensive Outpatient.
After working in treatment settings, she transitioned to private practice in 2012, where she devotes her work to those who suffer from disordered eating, relationship issues, identity/spiritual struggles, grief & loss, co-occurring disorders such as anxiety, depression, and co-addictive behaviors. Within this population, she has a special interest in working with athletes and recovery issues that arise surrounding healing the relationship with exercise and body. Additionally as a mother, Sarah is passionate about helping clients mend their relationship with self/body/food so they can not only feel empowered to create a healthier environment for their children, but also to live a more connected and embodied life. Sarah enjoys walking alongside individuals of all walks of life in their journey to finding meaning, acceptance, and healing in their story. She believes that full recovery IS possible with the proper support and treatment.
In her practice, Sarah utilizes evidenced based treatments with an eclectic and trauma-informed approach, in addition to working with a multi-disciplinary team as needed, which includes a {dietitian + physician}. Sarah strongly believes in ongoing training as the counseling field is always evolving. Her style is relational and individualized. Treatment modalities include but are not limited to: ACT-Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, DBT-Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Emotion Regulation Training, ERP-Exposure & Response Prevention, & Somatic/Body Based Therapies (SomEx), Experiential Therapy, and Parts Work (Internal Family Systems informed). She is currently training in ERED (a somatic and attachment-based modality).
Sarah is currently on the Board of Directors for Renewed Eating Disorders Support, a state wide non-profit that provides support, resources, community education and clinical training throughout Tennessee. Through Renewed, she leads a monthly support group from women 40+ in recovery.
